Dear Friends,
People have been contacting me lately, asking for any thoughts on how to prepare/protect against the Covid-19 virus. I haven’t had much to contribute, because my information has mostly come from the same sources as yours – although gradually the global homeopathic community is getting insight into treatments and remedies specific to this virus and sharing their experiences.
The emphasis of this newsletter, however, is on avoiding contagion, and supporting our overall health. As the global tension continues to escalate, addressing our internal anxiety may be the first step to take, as the greater our stress/anxiety level, the greater our susceptibility to any foreign influence becomes. When our basic safety and security feels threatened, especially against something we cannot see and yet can pervade the very air around us, we go on a continual high alert of suspicion and defensiveness. So how can we best protect ourselves, not only from sickness, but also from the effects of stress that this environment is creating within us?
Aconite 30C can be a great remedy when someone is overwhelmed with sudden fear, especially of death, often accompanied by extreme restlessness and thirst – the key word, though, is sudden. Aconite is for true panic that rises up out of the blue and takes over.
For those who live in a more continual state of anxiety, especially regarding security (financial or health or otherwise), Arsenicum 30C may help a lot. Interestingly, this is one of the remedies some homeopaths have found useful in treating this virus – so perhaps it matches a susceptibility more present than usual in our human society right now.
For either remedy, take a single dose away from food/drink (except water) by a few minutes and then repeat with a 2nd dose anywhere from 4 – 12 hours later. Don’t continue with more doses on your own, unless you have consulted with a professional homeopath.
Once your anxiety is calmed down, what else can you do to protect yourself? Anything that beefs up your immune system is a good thing to consider. Right now I am taking:
Micronized Mushrooms, a product called “Immune 7”;
- Sambucol Black Elderberry Syrup (anti-viral flu care) that apparently is helpful not just during a virus, but to help make you less resistant in general;
- a throat spray containing echinacea and propolis (should you inhale any virus, using this regularly may help diminish or kill it’s virulence).
- All of these came from a local health food store. There are likely a number of other products that can also help boost your overall immunity.
Oscillococcinum – this is the great homeopathic anti-flu remedy that I always recommend each flu season as it is a general influenza virus protector. However – it is made from the liver of a duck (birds are huge vectors of influenza viruses) whereas Covid seems to have come from another animal source. Nevertheless, there are other viruses floating around, so taking a dose of this every week through the winter is a good thing no matter what – and maybe will also offer some protection against this new virus.
Otherwise: all the stuff you already know. Frequent hand-washing, especially after you have been touching anything beyond your home, or use alcohol-based sanitizer or wipes. Maintain that social distance. When you are in the grocery store or out in a public place, be mindful but not obsessive (especially about toilet paper!).
Remember that we, as humanity, are all in this together. Viruses are opportunistic entities, arising when there is a susceptibility which in this case goes beyond national allegiance. Perhaps the “lesson” of this virus is not about further governmental protectionism and paranoia, but ultimately, that there are no borders. We are all members of the same race, no matter what country we live in.
How would our vulnerability change, if we cared for each other as one precious family? A worthwhile consideration.
Be well,
Susan
