Happy New Year!
While some people may feel nervous in a year that has the number “13” in it, my day of birth is a “13th” and I was born on a Friday to boot, so that particular superstition carries no weight with me. Like all humans, however, I’m not exempt from certain other, often irrational, beliefs that affect me in uneasy ways. While many of our beliefs are helpful or at least benign, others have a limiting influence on certain choices, actions and experiences in our lives.
Any belief that weakens our sense of security, confidence or freedom in life represents a susceptibility that comes from our energy system. Although we may consciously recognize some limiting beliefs, their influence cannot just be willed away. Without transforming the energetic foundation of the belief, at best we cope and at worst are overwhelmed when a particular event, circumstance or experience triggers that energy.
A simple example of how our underlying susceptibilities affect us could be the reaction to any sudden tragedy. As humans, we share a basic anxiety regarding personal survival so an exposure to any kind of unpredictable life threat will stimulate that fear. The shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the US triggered a whole range of uncomfortable responses in people everywhere. Whether it’s panic regarding personal safety, suspicion of others around us, or anger at how such mass destruction could happen, such a shocking event touches us all, with our susceptibilities dictating the degree and expression of the impact.
For those people who have energy rooted in believing the world an unsafe place, such an event could catapult them into a chronic state of fear. They may become sleepless, suspicious, restless, and hyper-alert as their impression of being constantly surrounded by danger has been confirmed so graphically. Anytime they hear another story of a random death or accident, their fears become intensified and their system further stressed. This intensification of their energy “dis-ease” can create physical symptoms such as ulcers, headaches, digestive issues, etc. Their state can even be “contagious,” impacting the energy susceptibilities of others living with them and “infecting” them with this influence.
Whether our emotional susceptibilities have gained the upper hand or remain lurking beneath the surface, homeopathy is a powerful tool in transforming their influence. The homeopathic consultation itself is a journey of exploration to discover where our energy is compromised and what is its effect on our health and well-being. The emerging picture of what disturbs the person’s experience, often reflected across the physical, emotional and mental levels, is the template to finding the resonating remedy which will begin a process of cure.
Because a homeopathic remedy is strictly energetic, it acts directly on our energy system, where both sickness and cure take place. Just as we may be susceptible to a particular disease, so can a limiting belief (referred to as a “delusion” in homeopathic literature) gain the upper hand when something triggers it. The resonating homeopathic remedy “tunes” one’s system to greater strength holistically, affecting body, mind, emotions and spirit in a rippling action of cure.
For some, uncovering and understanding their emotional susceptibilities is part of the homeopathic healing process – while others subtly transform without a conscious awareness of what has evolved, but simply feel “more like themselves.” Either way, the right remedy organically transforms our energy balance, enlivening us to greater freedom in ourselves and the world around us.
