Homeopathy and Inter-disciplinary Healing
How Serious Illness Inspires My Own Healing Journey
In my early 30’s, I suddenly developed an excruciating pain condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia. The trigeminal nerve runs along pathways on both sides of your face and is what gives you normal sensations. But when any part of the nerve gets inflamed or irritated, it becomes the center of your conscious experience, in a most up-ending way. Even a basic act – eating, talking, turning over in bed – sends burning, slashing, cutting pain right through your face. Originally called Tic Doloreux or painful spasm, it won’t kill you – but you may wish you were dead.
Sometimes it can be linked to a direct cause – physical injury to the cranial nerves, for example – but for me, young and healthy, there was no such reason. I appeared to be living a sweet life: a stay-at-home mother of a beautiful two-year old daughter, a successful, loving husband, and a recent move to his home town on the stunning west coast of Canada.
But I had become a reluctant participant in my life. Although I adored my daughter and wanted my husband to be happy, this move hadn’t been my choice. It had felt forced upon me and I had gone along without making my own commitment to it. Once we arrived, I floundered: still attached to my previous life and seemingly helpless to create a new one.
I used to take our daughter to a park along the river and while she chased the seagulls, I would sit and cry. It felt like I had been cut off from myself, from any sense of possibilities. And that’s when an actual physical, knife-like pain began, burning and pulsating across my right cheek.
Perceiving the Harmony – Even Amidst Pain
My experience may sound paltry compared to what other people – perhaps you – are struggling with in your life. But no one is exempt from suffering, and rightly so. For despite the universal desire to avoid it, suffering is perhaps our greatest catalyst to change and growth. Suffering is the call to move beyond what has become outdated, towards new possibilities wanting to emerge.
My dance with pain over the past 30+ years has been a pathway initiating me into healing modalities of many kinds – from undergoing brain surgery to studying shamanic journeying, cranial sacral therapy, psychological and spiritual disciplines and most lastingly, homeopathy. Each has offered new transformations and moved me further into a true sense of gratitude for every aspect of my life. We are so more than just our pain.
Most of us don’t realize that within our own minds/bodies/psyches lies the power to transform. My on-going life’s work is to further en-lighten myself and you, so we can move into greater freedom and joy, no matter what steps life gives us to dance.
While pain is most appreciated once it is over, its visits have kept me honest, open and willing to experience all aspects of a life’s journey. They help me see beyond what separates us towards ever more understanding, acceptance, and open-heartedness.
“It was a journey. Susan was the guide. It was perfect. The journey brought me to this point where all my “struggle” things started. I found the tool I was looking for and now I know how to use this tool.” —Alexander Tuchardt, Computer Programmer

“Susan helped me get rid of a chronic condition I thought I could never get rid of, having tried so many things in the past. Homeopathy worked – and showed me a different perspective of the human body’s amazing ability to heal. We had a very thorough consultation; the consultation time and money invested in my health was very much worth it. She changed my life back to normal – which I thought was impossible! Susan is a true star!” —Daniela Bartikova
